Shane Hughes, serving Washington and Idaho as Regional Sales Representative for Planet Turf has been elected as president of the Northwest Turfgrass Assocation and Professional Grounds Managers Society, Northwest Chapter.
While earning turfgrass management degrees at Walla Walla Community College and Washington State University, Hughes worked on the crews at The Club at Black Rock, Palouse Ridge and Meadow Springs. After finishing his education, he returned to the Tri-Cities and was the assistant superintendent at Canyon Lakes for four years and then the superintendent at Zintel Creek Golf Club for six years.
In January 2022, Hughes joined Planet Turf as the regional sales representative for southeastern Washington, eastern Oregon and southern Idaho. “Shane is dedicated to serving others and workin hard to be successful in life.” Says Jim Connolly, owner of Planet Turf. “We are fortunate to have him as part of the Planet Turf team.”
He first developed his love for the turfgrass industry at a young age, maintaining yards in his neighborhood starting in the fifth grade. He grew that into a business where he had 25 clients, a truck and a trailer stocked with equipment by his senior year in high school.
“It was hard work, it was rewarding and it developed the turfie within me,” he said.
